About the Founder

After working over 30 years for a Fortune500 company, Vicki felt she wanted to find something more meaningful to do with her life. As she pondered different ideas, she asked herself “what would I do for free” and at that very moment a television commercial came on advertising the recent opening of Le Cordon Bleu College of Culinary Arts in Atlanta. It was as if God was speaking directly to her as cooking is probably the only job she would do for free.  After that divine epiphany, she enrolled as a full time student while continuing to work her full time corporate job. With minimal sleep for 2 years she worked her way through the culinary program.

She graduated Summa Cum Laude and was honored as one of the top 5 in her class of more than 250 students. Before graduating she did her externship with the Food Network on a show called Good Eats with Alton Brown (based in Atlanta).  Right after graduation she worked for a PBS cooking show called Barbecue America with Rick Browne and later worked as pastry chef for the Atlanta Braves private club. After working in the food industry and kitchens around Atlanta she knew she wanted to open her own business.

Years later she ran into an old high school classmate from Kentucky and as they exchanged life stories, she talked about working for Goodwill and helping new entrepreneurs develop business plans and open their businesses. Vicki felt this was another divine intervention as this is exactly what she needed to start moving toward business ownership.

The Meal-Mates Story

Vicki always wanted to serve people in many ways with one of her favorite being to help people experience and enjoy great food.

The company name “Meal Mates” with special emphasis on the word “mates” came during her prayer time.  Mates could mean helper, support, partner, companion, match, complement, etc., and this is who Meal Mates wants to be to our customers.

Vicki has always had a heart for military service men and women being on assignment longing for home cooked meals, singles who don’t have a mate and resorting to fast food, single parents who don’t have the help they need and families that just don’t have the time.  She wants the customers to experience high quality foods with phenomenal flavors.

Venturing into the prepared meal market, Meal Mates wants to ease some of the daily burdens of life including that ever agonizing question “what’s for dinner”.  Our goal is to give the home cook a break from meal planning, shopping, cooking and cleaning. We will deliver fresh wholesome well balanced fully cooked meals right to your doorstep.
